The Eileen Youtie Predisposition Syndrome Initiative
The Eileen Youtie Predisposition Syndrome Initiative will help carry the torch of Eileen’s tireless advocacy and longtime support for patients with hereditary cancer and genetic predispositions to cancer. The initiative tackles a great unmet need for specialized, coordinated care of individuals who are predisposed and at higher risk for cancers due to inherited genetic mutations. There are currently over 50 hereditary cancer syndromes, and that number continues to grow every year. Identification of people who are carriers of cancer predisposition genes is critical, as outcome and survival is better if caught early.
The Eileen Youtie Predisposition Syndrome Initiative at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center will achieve the following goals
- Prevent cancers
- Diagnose cancer at the earliest stage.
- Help patients with genetic predispositions receive integrated care under one Sylvester “roof”.
- Develop risk assessment and risk modification for patients and family members at higher risk due to genetics.
- Care for patients with a hereditary cancer/predisposition syndrome in a multidisciplinary approach.
- Perform translational and population science research.
- Assure the best Survivorship for thriving.
